To conclude a five-day international school exploring how the landscapes of Friuli and Slovenia inspired Pasolini’s poetics – traveling from Casarsa through Idrija to Nova Gorica – a special day of events titled Pasolini’s Passions will take place on 6 November 2025 in Nova Gorica. The programme marks the 50th anniversary of the death of Pier Paolo Pasolini, one of the most influential Italian artists, poets, and thinkers of the 20th century.
The day will focus on Pasolini’s less-known but deeply felt passion for football. In a 1970 interview for L’Europeo, Pasolini described football as “the last sacred ritual of our time … a spectacle that has replaced theatre … the last great ceremony that remains to us today.”
Through sport, art, and literature, the programme will shed light on this fascinating link between culture and play:
13:30 – Sports Park Nova Gorica
Nogometniki: Osvaldo Soriano FC
The day begins with an artistic football match, presenting football as a metaphor for society and aesthetics – much in the spirit of Pasolini’s vision of the game. Tickets are available at this link, admission is free.
18:00 – EPIC Gallery
The Isolation of the Right Wing
A photographic exhibition that plays with the themes of movement, solitude, and introspection. The title refers to Pasolini’s famous essay and symbolically mirrors the artist’s own position – solitary yet essential in the game of life. Tickets are available at this link, admission is free.
18:30 – EPICenter
Football According to Pasolini (Il calcio secondo Pasolini)
Presentation of the Slovenian translation of Valerio Curcio’s book, which explores Pasolini’s view of football as a cultural, poetic, and artistic phenomenon.
With Pasolini’s Passions, Nova Gorica and Gorizia once again bridge culture, sport, and social reflection – celebrating an artist who turned everyday life into art.
