City on the Border – permanent exhibition at EPIC

City on the Border is a permanent exhibition prepared by Dr. Kaja Širok, presenting the history of Goriška through the personal and collective stories of its inhabitants. The exhibition opens a deeper understanding of everyday life in the multicultural borderland of the 20th century and moves beyond traditional national narratives to offer a human and emotional perspective on the events that shaped the region before, during and after the two world wars.

The exhibition encourages dialogue on identity, borders and shared heritage, providing a multi-layered interpretation of history. Its final section invites visitors to participate actively by sharing reflections, personal items and stories, contributing to the rich cultural memory of Goriška.

The exhibition is part of the official programme of the European Capital of Culture 2025 Nova Gorica – Gorizia, as part of the EPIC: European Platform for the Interpretation of the 20th Century. The EPIC Interpretation Centre features a multifunctional hall, a gallery for temporary exhibitions, the permanent exhibition and a café with a unique atmosphere.
